On November 11, 2004, a group of persons compromised with the policies linked to the areas socially, intellectually, politically and academic, they constituted the Progressive Summer university of Catalonia (the UPEC). It is a question of an initiative that it arises from the need to fill an emptiness regarding the plural scenes of debate of the progressive sectors in Catalonia.

The UPEC wants to be a great space of meeting, reflection and study on those topics that worry to the social democratic sectors and of left sides.

The educational program of the UPEC has two basic characteristics:

* To contribute to the development of the democratic culture of left sides
* To take part in the analysis of the policies applied from a strategic perspective of left sides
